How did I get on the path of online classes?

Written in 2013

If you’re graduating and already have graduated, you know the feeling of uncertainty. What should I do next? Should I go to graduate school right now? Should I get a job?

These are some of the questions that ran through my mind.

I eventually decided I wanted to take a year off and then go back to school. The main reason being that the program I wanted to apply for only accepted applications for the fall and spring semesters. And I wasn’t prepared. I wasn’t thinking about applying to grad school while I was in school.

Initially, I wanted to apply to FSU’s creative writing program but after talking with one of my professors I decided to go for English.

I started preparing for grad school. I took the GRE, I wrote my personal statement, and I had to get three recommendations. I completed all this and other tasks by December in 2012.

Then I waited.

At the end of March, I received an email from FSU about my status. Drumroll…. And I didn’t get accepted.

After reading this, I wondered why I didn’t get accepted. I even emailed them back to see if I could appeal. I was disappointed but it didn’t bother me too much.

My plan didn’t come out like I had expected. I was facing the question “What do I do now?”

So I begin to see what my options were.

Option #1: Get a certificate in publishing and editing at FSU

Option #2 Get a second bachelor’s degree in journalism (I know a professor who did this and I thought it was kind of cool.)

Option #3 Get a master’s in journalism

Option #4 Get a degree in something else besides English and journalism

Most of the options didn’t work.

But then there was a turning point.
