Finding the Positive in the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic
As with anything in life, there will always be changes. Right now we are collectively dealing with a pandemic as well as major life changes. Some people are dealing with the loss of a loved one. Some are dealing with job changes such as working from home or school changes such as homeschooling or virtual school....just to name a few. Some, like me, are not so much dealing with staying home but anxiety and fear.
I had to find ways to stay encouraged (and sane lol) and wanted to share in the hopes that it will help someone. As I am writing this for others I am also writing for myself. Like a journal entry.
So here are some things I'm doing:
1. Talk to God
This is a no-brainer but sometimes we need to be reminded of the simple things. Here's a simple truth: God cares about every detail of our lives so go to God. Vent to Him. Share your fears and your concerns.
2. Focus on things you can control/do.
For me, this looks like getting dressed on weekdays and writing a to-do list of things I would like to get done. Working on "passion projects" or organizing and cleaning my home.
It also means doing my part such as staying home, wearing a mask if I need to go out, washing my hands.
Focusing on other things doesn't mean I suppress my feelings. It just means I'm not sitting around letting fear and worry get to me. What are some things you can focus on?
3. In addition, I try to do small things that will help me stay grounded and healthy. I journal. I exercise. I meditate. I make sure I'm taking my vitamins (definitely vitamin C). I try to stay in touch with family and friends. I say my affirmations daily.
4. Last, I try to be kind to myself. This is something I'm still learning but I can see the importance of it. We are in the middle of a pandemic! This means this time period will go down in history. There's no need to be "perfect" during this time. I saw a post going around that said something to the fact that if we are not productive that's okay. We are all doing the best we can at this time. So I try to go easy on myself. There are some days I just rest, eat, and relax.
If you're interested in knowing and using the affirmations I say here is a list of some:
• This too shall past
• We (my family and I) will make it through
• I've been through before and I will make through again
• I shall live and not die (I also speak scriptures over my life)
• We have everything we need. We don't lack for anything
Let me know in the comments what you're doing to stay positive!
