When I started my skincare routine last year, I looked up tips and advice on starting one. One of the things I researched was toner. I also looked for products that would help me with acne and hydration.

I want to talk about what I learned about toner, the toners I use, and why I decided on toner.

First, I want to address the question on whether or not toners are really necessary. I know that this is a common question; I definitely had this question as well.

When it came to my routine, I was trying to keep it as simple as possible. If I didn’t need a toner I wasn’t going to get one. From my research I found that toners are not necessary but recommended. I definitely recommend!

So here’s what I learned:

  • I also wondered what’s the difference between astrigent and toner. Astrigent is a little stronger than toner. It is typically for acne-prone or oily skin. Toners, on the other hand, can be used for any skin type. Once I learned the difference, I chose to go with toners especially since I didn’t have severe acne.

  • Toners cleanse any residue left by cleaners as well as makeup or dirt. There have been times that I wash my face, follow up with a toner, and I could actually see some of the residue/dirt that was left behind. So toners do work.

  • Toners help restore your skin’s ph balance.

  • You want to apply toner after cleansing and before moisturing. I try not to wait too long between applying products because it’s good to have the skin still a little damp. The toner helps to absorb the moisturizer.

  • It is recommended to use either a hydrating toner or alcohol free toner. Before learning this, I figured alcohol was bad for the skin. Plus, as I stated before I wanted products that would hydrate my skin. These are the toners I use and my skin loves it. I prefer the Dickson hydrating toner and use that mostly. (It is cheaper at walmart).

These are the cotton rounds I use if I’m not getting any from dollar tree.

Hopefully, this was helpful for you.
