Moesha Is Still A Good Show

On July 29th, Netflix made the announcement that several shows were added to its collection.

These shows include Moesha, Sister Sister, Girlfriends, The Game, The Parkers, Half & Half, and One on One.

With the shows, comes a sense of nostalgia and excitement. Fans were especially excited about Moesha (as was I). On the other hand, after watching the show again some fans were disappointed. Some called Moesha toxic or problematic.

I try to understand different perspectives so I get this. But stick with me here….I don’t think it’s that deep.

Like I said I understand the comments, however, I believe Moesha is still a good show.

For one, the show had many guest appearances by black actors who later turned out to be really famous! In one episode, I remember seeing Russell Simmons, Sanaa Lathan, Adele Givens, and Lisa Leslie.

I also think you have to consider the time period the show was filmed. The show was reflective of the time. When you look at something retrospectively of course you will have a different view of it because we’re always learning and evolving (at least you should be ).

We don’t have to get too deep and analyze everthing though.

The show was entertaining, funny, featured a black family, and had a message in the episodes.

If we are going to point out the toxic aspects of Moesha, are we going to do this with all the other shows of the past?

I’m choosing to look at this show through the lens of grace with the knowledge that the times were different back then.

So was the show perfect? No.

Were some of the characters “toxic”? Possibly.

But am I going to cancel it? Naw.

I’m going to enjoy Mo to the….e to the.

The "Moesha" cast is back together after sixteen years, and they're dishin' on how they got their roles! The stories will truly warm your heart.
